Designing schemes to be planted in the traditional way with nursery grown plants is Plantforms main service. However, plants can be incorporated into the landscape or garden in a number of ways:
Traditional Planting Design Service
Ecologically informed planting design is appropriate in projects of all scales. In essence it means more rigorous matching of plants to site and creating plant communities rather than just pretty pictures. Of course aesthetics are never compromised, why should they be with the wealth of plants available to the designer these days?
Once I have seen the prospective project on the ground and discussed briefly your ideas I will send you a quote for design work. Once I have the go ahead the site is surveyed and a fuller brief is established by an in-depth consultation. From here I produce a palette of plants to discuss with you and some concept ideas. Having agreed the concept and plant palette I go ahead with the master plan.
On smaller jobs I am available to hire for planting up the space, on larger jobs setting out the plants myself is essential as there are always tweaks to make at this stage. Then your preferred contractor can plant them up.
Growing Prairie Meadows from seed in situ
Developed by scientists in Sheffield, this new method has huge potential to change the way we plant gardens and landscapes. Sowing allows many more plants per square meter than with traditional planting. This, along with other features, makes it a very low maintenance planting option. The seeds are sown and it takes until year two before flowering is significant. However, long term the results are amazing. You get the feel of a meadow but with all the colour and drama of a traditional border. Preparation is key and happens over the summer months. Sowing has to be done in autumn-winter. So with this option you need to plan ahead. Get in touch if you are interested for more details.
Planting into Grassland
You might have long grassy wilder areas that you want to 'improve' visually with some flowering plants. This can be difficult if you don't know what works well, resulting in many losses. Techniques have been proven to work with a limited range of species. I can advise on the various options. Often this is an effective way of dealing with that wildflower meadow that has reverted to a plant community dominated by vigorous grasses. If you don't want the hassle of starting from scratch why not improve it with planting.
Green Roofs
Planting up a roof requires a particular range of plants suited to these harsh conditions. Plantforms can help specify plants for green roof projects, sourcing them if required. A green roof is not synonymous with sedums, excellent though they are. Many more options are available. e-mail plantforms to discuss your green roof project.
Costs
If you are local I will come out for a look and then provide you with a quote for design work. Actual planting costs can't be given until after the design process as this varies hugely depending on the type of scheme you are after. If you are further afield then get in touch and I'll arrange a quote for you.
