Planting Design Courses

I currently teach at SRUC King’s Building on their Garden and Greenspace Design course. I also deliver various CPD courses for the Society of Garden Designers. Guest lectures are given from time to time on request.

Topics I regularly cover are Plant Habitat Stereotypes, Plant Sociability and Constructing Plant Compositions. I have given guest lectures on the basics of an ecologically informed apporach to planting design. Recently I also delivered a new day event on Selecting Climate Resilient Trees.

Up coming CPD events will be listed here.

Get in touch to book me for a guest lecture in your design practice.

A Climate Resilient Tree Selection Protocol

With a changing climate and tougher urban conditions, how can we select trees with the resilience they need to survive and thrive?

During the first session we will look at the theory behind a simple tree selection protocol - a method for selecting appropriate and climate resilient trees. To illustrate the method I will ‘test’ whether or not our industry’s most popular trees are climate resilient and discover new ones that are.

The following week we will all present two trees that we have selected using the protocol. This is a great way of taking the learning deeper and the sharing will spark fruitful discussions and hopefully some wonderful surprises.
